Mission Co-Op

Not to be confused with World Mission Sunday (October)

Franciscan Missionaries of Hope (Lyke Community)

Every year we get to hear from a missionary from another part of the world. This year because of the pandemic, the appeal will be done online. This year we hear from the Franciscan Missionaries of Hope (Lyke Community).

The Franciscan Missionaries of Hope (a.k.a. Lyke Community) was founded in Nairobi, Kenya, in 1993 by nine young men who had undergone their initial formation in the Order of Friars Minor (OFM). Since the foundation of the Franciscan Missionaries of Hope, the community has also been known by another name “The Lyke Community”. This name was adopted in memory of Archbishop James Patterson Lyke of Atlanta, Georgia.

Through their Charism of giving hope, they reach out to the most vulnerable in the society from their Parishes - nine in the US + 3 in Kenya (including 19 out-stations/mission churches).  https://www.lykecommunity.org/parish-ministires
